LATax Slams $2 Million Confidential Settlement and Misuse of Housing Funds: “Taxpayers Deserve Better Than This”
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Taxpayers Association (LATax) today condemned two recent actions by county leaders, calling them out as two further examples of a long pattern of mismanagement. Local taxpayers called out a confidential $2 million settlement to County CEO Fesia Davenport, and a decision by the Board of Supervisors to provide rent relief to illegal immigrants.
“These are symptoms of a government that has lost touch with reality,” said LATax Chairman Aidan Chao. “Hardworking taxpayers are being crushed by the cost of living in Los Angeles and while regular citizens can barely afford to put gas in their cars, the politicians are handing our hard earned money to insiders and lawbreakers.”
Officials have given no public explanation for the $2 million payout to Davenport and the public has only been told the issue is related to vague claims of “emotional distress.”
Meanwhile, officials have failed to address basic services and important needs for Angelenos. The recent Palisandes fire, for which our community has still yet to recover, highlighted such failed leadership. While leaders traveled abroad and painted fire hydrants in rainbows to make political statements, they didn’t bother to make sure those hydrants actually worked. High living costs and rampant homelessness furthermore highlight this failed leadership. Numerous tax and borrowing programs ostensibly designed to solve our local housing shortages have fallen far short of the promises made to voters.
“Local veterans and working class families struggle to even keep a roof over their heads and high costs of living continue to drive more Angelenos to give up on California entirely,” stated LATax Chairman Aidan Chao. “Local taxpayers deserve real solutions to our region’s serious problems — not backroom deals and handouts paid for with our tax dollars.”
